Hip in Hemp

(note: I just added this image of my daughter's friend Hunter who was the happy recipient of the Hip In Hemp skirt)

I Just got back from being away from my computer for the weekend and logged on....and I was blown away to see my design (and gorgeous daughter ) on the opening page of the Knitty website.
I have had part of this post prepared ahead of time so I could throw it onto my blog as soon as the new knitty issue came out.... So here she is....the Hip In Hemp design in a couple of other stripe/color variations (the possibilities here are almost endless)!

The skirt on Knitty in orange/brown/green stripes was modeled by my daughter but the skirt was a present for her friend Hunter who loved it so much she slept in it that night!
Hunter's Mum, Deanna was the recipient of the adult size and models it in the photos here.
The wee model is my niece Molly in New Zealand who obviously enjoyed posing for the pictures!

Just wanted to show anyone who's interested in knitting this skirt that you can really individualize it!

Hello! I'm so glad to have found your charming skirt pattern and your blog, both thanks to Knitty! I really am expediting this project—it's been ages since I knit something for myself, and this looks like just the thing. It's lovely, and you seem to be too. I'll be back . . . . Best wishes to you and your beautiful family!

Congratulations on having your pattern published! I love the skirt, it even looks great in an adult size which isn't easy to do. The photos of your parents home are breathtaking!

OMG! I just saw this on knitty.com and I love, love, love it! I guess I'll just have to make it for me, bc my daughters are only 2 and 1. Or maybe I'll figure out how to modify it for my 2 year old. Thanks for a great pattern.

Absolutely love your skirt, which has now led me to your blog, and I'll definitely be returning! Any tips on sizing the skirt up a few sizes for us more . . . um . . . "voluptuous" . . . knitters?

G,

Okay, this may not count quite the same way as all these other comments, but husbands are allowed to comment too, right? Very proud of your success with designing and thrilled that other people are getting a glimpse of what you do so well. Here's hoping that The Shetland Trader stays a part of our lives for a long time!

Love the skirt - caught my eye immediately - especially the colors of your daughter's skirt.

And how cute that your husband comments on your blog (mine only admits to looking at the pics on mine!).

Congrats!

Wow,
I am overwhelmed by everyone's super kind response to my design. Thank you so much to all of you who have left me comments. I am relatively new to blogging but quickly getting addicted! I'd love to have people stopping by and sharing their knitting thoughts with me.
Yes it is very sweet that my husband left me a comment (first time I might add)! He has his own very active website and blog which I have to admit to never leaving comments on! However he's giving me good blogging advice!
I think I will try and put a post up soon about sizing the skirt up or down for those who are interested in sizes other than what is on Knitty. This won't be a fully written out pattern but will hopefully give enough guidelines that will work in conjunction with the pattern on knitty.

It's an amazing skirt. I'm currently knitting in the same pattern, Chevron scarf, in springcolours.
Now I can buy some more and knit my daughter this beauty...
On the front of Knitty (going around the world) is well deserved.

Knitty truly is a wonderful thing. It's great to be able to share and connect with people all over the globe. This includes my family- some in New Zealand and some in Scotland- who were able to view my pattern instantaneously!
It's so cool to be hearing personally from so many of you fellow knitters out there!

Love the skirt! Since I have neither a little girl to knit for nor the budget to make it for myself right now, I'm afraid it will have to go on the back burner for now. It's definitely going on my list, though! Great job!

Wow, look at all this traffic on your blog.

So do you still want to take the website development slowly?

Hi,

Congratulations on your published pattern! It looks fun and I hope to knit it very soon. I'm a beginner, so it's gonna be a big project!

More than anything, I wanted to say how beautiful that picture on the cover is. Not only is your daughter absolutely beautiful, but the composition is great too :~) You're gonna need a stick to beat away the boys when she gets older! ;~)

Thanks for sharing with us all— great blog too!
