Well my next blog post was supposed to be a wee window into the day of my photoshoot in Shetland....however....something sort of massive interrupted our lives and I pretty much have to share it.......
We are now the owners of a gorgeous 10 week old rescued Ridgeback puppy!
We are now the owners of a gorgeous 10 week old rescued Ridgeback puppy!
He's called Saba (this being a name we picked years ago for our then hypothetical dog-it's a small Dutch owned island in the Caribbean).
We've been in love with this breed for going on 12 years now and recently decided it was time to make inquires into adopting a rescued Ridgeback. We had a home visit before we left for Scotland and then were told we'd have to be patient for the right dog to come along.
Well on Friday night (a few days after returning home) we get a phone call about this little guy.....we had to make a decision fast...rescued Ridgeback puppies pretty much never show up in Massachusetts.....how could we say no?
As you can imagine we're reading up fast on puppy training and rapidly learning what we can and can't have lying around the house!

look at the size of those paws!!
He looks like fun ... and probably trouble. And how are the existing tenants reacting!?
He looks gorgeous, and very good-natured. I think he'll set your knitwear designs off very nicely in the future (once he's finished teething?).
He's so gorgeous, Gudrun! Congrats!! :D
OH he's just too adorable!
He is gorgeous! And hooray for rescues!!
Congratulations! He is gorgeous! (Also, I have crate and house trained 10 dogs over the last year, so please don;t hesitate to ask if you have any questions!!)
He is *adorable*. Look at those eyes, how can you resist him?
We always wanted a Rhodesian Ridgeback ourselves! You never do see them around here (also MA) but I think it's just the size, as they make great dogs and are so gorgeous. Enjoy him!
omg!!! I am NOT showing this to Josie, as she's been telling me we need a puppy to go with our 2 dogs, 1 bird, and baby rat.
He's beautiful!! Puppy training is much like having a toddler in the house! (Teething, impulsive energy spasms, middle of the night wake up whines, and one-word commands) And then those glorious moments when he'll fall sound asleep after exercise and he'll look so adorable that those chewed up shoes and gnawed table legs will seem more precious. :) Somehow, I think you'll have a better trained dog than my 2 spoiled retrievers.
He's gorgeous, but judging by the size of his paws, he is going to be huge when he is all grown up.

Oh, he's gorgous!! Such a lovely little guy. Puppies are such fun, and so much trouble (lucky for them they're cute). Good luck!
He's ADORABLE! Congratulations!
Soooo cute and Great paws.. :)
LOL ... cute puppy! Saba also means "mackerel" in japanese. He's very cute ... I wish you great joy of him.
How adorable - congratulations!
Adorable! So cute!
Oh my god, so cute! That breed can be jumpers! Good for you for getting on the training right away!
awww, congratulations!! Saba is such a great name, and such a cutie!!
aw. I never knew much about ridgebacks until we got a couple of mutts and started hanging out at all the local dog parks and I met some. They really are such lovely dogs. All the ones I've seen are so gently curious about other dogs, but always so well-mannered.
How are the cats handling it? He looks amazing!
Oh my goodness, he's gorgeous - and his paws are HUGE!!
Love that noble pose in the fourth pic down. He looks so regal!

We had a ridgeback when we lived in Africa and he was the sweetest thing. He was so kind and gentle even though he was a giant. You will love your dog! Congrats!
Oh my goodness, HE IS SO CUTE! The sweet little face! The paws! And it sounds like it was fate that he ended up with your family. Congrats!
OMG cute! Tx for the kind wishes on my blog post. :)
He's alright I guess ;0) bet he can't clap his paws though!!
I want one!
Oh so cute! My family got our dog as the result of a sort of happy accident, and nothing could be better. I hope Saba settles happily into his new home!
If you can find a copy of this book, I strongly recommend it. It's perfectly conversational in tone and gives excellent advice for training a dog to be a good member of the family -- simply by learning to think like a dog. Heaven knows it helped me and my first pup come to an understanding. =)
