......this is what Maya said about my first ever attempt at jam making......can't get better than that!
The kids and I picked the berries this week from Nourse Farms......obviously a few didn't make it into the jam!
I had seen Lolly's lovely looking peach jam and vowed that I would finally get around to making jam of my own this week......and I did!
After I grilled my canning expert friend on the phone I felt equipped enough to take the plunge! It was of course pretty easy! However I was surprised at how much those berries condense down ......I only got 2 and half pints out of our pickings..........

good job! The first time I made blackberry jam up, I ended up with a giant piece of blackberry candy. :D
I thought I knew how to make jam because I spent many a CA Central Valley summer day stirring giant pots of apricot napalm which did turn into very wonderful jam.
Time to plant a raspberry patch? Nothing like homemade.
Yum, taking orders?
Love homemade jam! The last kind I made was pear ginger. But your raspberry one looks great! :) And what a great compliment from your kids.
Wow, synchronicity! Yesterday I had a huge compulsion to learn jam/marmalade making afte rreading a great recipe in a magazine! Must give it a go - yours looks sensational :)
yeah, that's how it is with most homemade stuff--demand is a LOT higher than supply. But since you're home now maybe you can plant your own jam supply :)
Congrats! It is scary at first, isn't it? I have committed this year to can A LOT of veggies over the summer for us to use over the winter (I just learned to can jams last year). So far so good. Today I did what felt like hundreds of pounds of squash (ok - 6 quart jars), corn, green beans and pickles!
my kids love raspberry hats...more go in the mouth than in the pail. but i figure if they love them that much that way, then why would i stop them?
YUM!
Looks so good! I missed my blackberry crop again this year -- been away from home while they've gotten to the ripe stage, so I hope my neighbor was able to use them. I'm missing peaches too this year -- seems a late freeze got all the Texas Hill Country peaches ;-(. Last year, I put up about 2 bushels, and we ate every last one of them.
i do wish i could an effort to make some home made jam this summer! how delicious!
enjoy summer, heh!
Oh yumm! I am glad you made some, Gudrun. I am hoping to make another batch very soon of my jam - we have already finished two of those little jars!
Enjoy!
Now, you have to share your recipe!
