Winter Camping Californian Style

( In which Gudrun's Knitting blog is taken over by family photos)!
Camping in January on the Californian coast can mean better weather than in the height of summer and we were not disappointed with what we found at Montana De Oro this weekend.

We were even able to book one of our favourite camping spots at the last minute. A beautiful environmental (hike in, no water) spot that sits on a bluff overlooking the ocean in a small grove of eucalyptus trees.
Montana De Oro is full of trails and dunes and miles of deserted beach. We all couldn't wait to dip our toes (and more) in the Pacific waters.
Yes it was glorious...... but we did have to cut it short as Sage was inflicted with a stomach virus in the middle of the night! So it wasn't all a bed of roses!

It is lovely there. MdO is where I spent the better part of my teenage years, on the back of my pony (and then, horse) with my dog running ahead. Such freedom. Some of the trails are now closed to horses and dogs aren't allowed anywhere but the campground and Spooner's Cove. It's for the best I suppose, but I'm grateful for the time I spent there with my two best pals.

Beautiful photographs - made me forget the snow for a moment. I hope Sage got better quickly xx

Shetland is the warmest ... let me rephrase that ... least cold part of the UK at the moment ... sunshine, frost and no snow! But I envy you! Hope Sage is okay now.

Oh how fun! (Aside from the stomach bug, that is). And such beautiful photos, yet again.

pardon me while I swoon with jealousy...I mean we still have like a solid three months of winter to go! And there you all are... having such a great time! Sigh! I am off to Toronto tomorrow and there is a snow storm there...I just hope I don't end up 'never leaving the airport'

I live about 20 minutes from MdO, my family spends a lot of time there. Isn't it lovely? The sunsets are gorgeous, especially when the sky is clear, it looks like the water is on fire. Hope you enjoyed your vacation.
